Ethology is the science of animal behavior.
Applied ethology is concerned with specific aims, often linked to the questions of professionals, in contrast to fundamental ethology, which feeds scientific knowledge without any predefined application.
Ethology provides a better understanding of animals and their behavioral needs. This knowledge can be used to improve existing situations (to enrich the living environment of wild animals in captivity, for example) or to measure animal well-being.
